About me
Emma Smart is Director of Collections, Learning & Engagement for the BFI. She joined the BFI in 2000, first working as a Library Assistant and progressed through the department to be Head Librarian until her recent promotion. Her various library roles combined the skills Emma acquired working at an academic library with her long held passion and understanding of the moving image.
She is responsible for developing the national collections and leading on an access and engagement strategy that places audiences and collections at its heart. She has strategic oversight of the curatorial, library and learning, and heritage projects teams at the BFI and has played a key role in broadening access to the collections of the BFI via the BFI Reuben Library, BFI Mediatheque and most recently BFI Replay.
Emma is partnership lead for the BFI Replay Libraries Network, the founding library group that worked in co-creating BFI Replay over the last 3 years.
