About me
Jack Harrison is a physicist and postdoctoral researcher at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. He completed an integrated Masters degree in physics at the University of Oxford (UK) in 2019. His PhD research, completed in 2023, focused on the magnetic properties of alpha-Fe2O3, the main constituent of rust and closely related to the storage medium in many types of magnetic tapes. His postdoctoral research is part of the “Play It Again” project led by Sebastian Gliga, which aims to use synchrotron X-rays to recover the magnetic information stored in chemically degraded tapes that cannot be read any longer by conventional players.
